ROMEO AND JULIET

Brought to life by modern actors
for a modern audience.

Swordfights, friendship, rival families
and first love.  Romeo and Juliet is the
perfect play for teenagers because in it
they see a reflection of themselves.

A fast-paced, edge of your seat
50-minute telling of the greatest love
story ever written.

Romeo (Montague), who is in love with Rosaline, goes to a party in an effort to forget her or to ease his broken heart. At this party he meets Juliet, and immediately falls in love with her. He later finds out that she is a Capulet, the rival family of the Montagues. He decides that he loves her anyway and they confess their love for each other during the very famous "balcony scene" in which they agree to secretly marry the next day. Friar Lawrence agrees to marry them in an effort to end the feuding between the families. Unfortunately, the fighting gets worse and Mercutio, a good friend of Romeo's, ends up in a fight with Tybalt (Capulet), Juliet's cousin. Tybalt kills Mercutio, which causes Romeo to kill Tybalt in an angry rage. For this, Romeo is banished from Verona.

At the same time, the Capulet's are planning Juliet's marriage to Paris. Juliet does not want to marry this man so she arranges with Friar Lawrence to fake her own death with a sleeping potion that will make everyone think that she is dead. Friar Lawrence promises to send word to Romeo to meet her when the potion wears off and to rescue her to Mantua, where Romeo is currently staying. There they would live happily ever after. Unfortunately, Romeo does not receive this message on time and upon hearing of her "death" goes to Juliet's tomb where he drinks poison and dies. When Juliet's potion wears off, she awaken's to find her lover's dead body. She then proceeds to stab herself with Romeo's dagger. The two families find the bodies and, through their shared sorrow, finally make peace with each other.

A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

Fairies, Magic and Mischief...
a perfect introduction to
Shakespeare for any age.

An exciting and fun
50-minute version of Shakespeare's
magical comedy.

In Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Shakespeare shows how wonderful and silly love can be. To trick Titania into handing over an Indian boy she is raising, Oberon orders Puck to find a plant that causes love at first sight, and through Oberon's meddling and Puck's trickery, the characters fall into and out of love with the wrong people. In the end, Oberon sets things right, and the fiasco of the previous evening becomes nothing more than A Midsummer Night's Dream.

ANDROCLES AND THE LION

Set in ancient Greece and told in the
Italian style of Commedia dell'Arte,
Androcles and the Lion is a
funny and interactive musical comedy.

Androcles, a slave, befriends a lion by showing him kindness.
Although the lion is terrifying to Androcles, the slave - now a runaway - approaches the lion and removes a thorn from his paw, making the animal grateful.  When Androcles is caught and captured by his owner, he is taken to the arena and certain that he will be fed to a beast for the Emperor's entertainment, however, the animal turns out to be the same lion Androcles befriended in the forest, and both man and beast are spared.

A group of players sets up the stage and gives a performance capturing many of Commedia's stock characters: the miserly Pantalone, the bragging Captain, the romantic Sweethearts, and the endearing and noble Lion.  This centuries-old tale is one of the most popular children's plays ever written, with its enduring themes of freedom and friendship.

A 40-minute production with six professional actors, this production is an excellent introduction to theatre and story-telling, focusing on themes of friendship, loyalty, freedom, trust, farce and Commedia dell'Arte. At the conclusion of each performance, there is a question and answer discussion between the actors and the students.
